국문 초록 

본고는 백수린 소설에 나타난 이방인의 형상화 방식에 주목하여 기존의 이방인 담론에서 거듭되어 온 국경과 경계의 패러다임을 인류 보편의 문제를 사유하고 상생·공존의 가능성을 확인하는 세계시민적 패러다임으로 인식 전환하는 데 기여하고자 한 시도이다. 오늘날 초국가적 세계는 영토 분쟁과 종교 및 정치적 갈등, 그로 인한 난민의 발생과 테러 위협에 이르기까지, 끊임없는 갈등과 반목의 역사 속에서 위기감이 고조되는 상황에 놓여 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 이방인을 둘러싼 고민 역시 전 지구적 시스템에 대한 이해를 기반으로 세계 공통의 문제를 함께 고민하는 협력적 관계의 구현으로 나아갈 필요가 있다. 이에 본고는 이국적 정취와 이방인의 형상화에 관심을 기울여 온 백수린 소설의 사례를 분석 대상으로 삼아, 이방인의 주체성과 실존적 삶의 조건이 세계시민의 정체성과 맞닿아 있음을 확인하였다. 그 구체적인 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 「국경의 밤」과 「거짓말 연습」 두 소설에서는 민족·국민·국가라는 구획화된 경계 내부로부터 발현된 정체성을 뛰어넘어, 광활한 세계에 대한 자유로운 상상이 행해지는 국면을 확인할 수 있었다. 다음으로 「참담한 빛」과 「여름의 빌라」에서는 세계화와 초국가적 현상이 일상의 범주에 들어선 이후에도 여전히 우리의 인식을 관통하는 근대적 이데올로기가 작동할 수 있다는 우려 하에, 세계적 층위에 거주하는 이방인들 간 상생과 공존, 연대의 방안을 모색하였다. 본고의 논의를 통해 영토성에 기반한 근대의 경직된 이데올로기에서 벗어나 세계라는 보다 확장된 공동체의 유대를 사유하는 계기가 마련될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록 

This paper focuses on the portrayal of strangers in Baek Su-rin's novels. This is to change the paradigm of borders and boundaries as seen in the existing discourse on strangers into a way of contemplating universal human issues. Today, the transnational world is experiencing conflicts such as territorial disputes, religious and political conflicts, resulting in the outbreak of refugees and terrorist threats. For this reason, the discourse of strangers should realize a cooperative relationship that considers common problems in the world together. This study has taken as its subject of analysis the depiction of strangers and foreign elements as they appear in Baek Su-rin's novels. Through this, it was confirmed the similarity between the identity of the strangers as the subject and that of a global citizen. In the novels <Night of the Border> and <Practice Lying>, they transcend the identity of nationality, citizens, and the state through imagination of a vast world. Next, the novels <Breaking Light> and <Summer Villa> were analyzed. As a result, it sought ways of coexistence and solidarity among strangers living in the world.This study will serve as a catalyst for considering the bonds of solidarity within the global community.and the community.
